{"id":326,"date":"2017-11-29T20:41:03","date_gmt":"2017-11-29T20:41:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utcoaddev.wpengine.com\/?page_id=326"},"modified":"2021-07-27T11:36:49","modified_gmt":"2021-07-27T15:36:49","slug":"civic-design-center-nashville","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/archdesign.utk.edu\/study\/studios-learning-labs\/civic-design-center-nashville\/","title":{"rendered":"Civic Design Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"intro\">We have a long-standing partnership with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.civicdesigncenter.org\/\">Civic Design Center<\/a>\u00a0in Nashville, which offers our students studio and internship opportunities, off-campus study experience, hands-on engagement with community members and real-world design experience.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Urban Design Studio<\/h2>\n<p>Our students have been engaged with the city of Nashville and the Design Center for more than 20 years. We&#8217;ve designed, reimagined and researched multiple areas of the city, presented our ideas to civic leaders and design professionals and participated in charrettes with area residents. Each year, about 36 students work on studio projects for the city.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the students&#8217; involvement comes through our Nashville Urban Design Summer Studio held at the center in collaboration with Vanderbilt University and led by <a href=\"https:\/\/archdesign.utk.edu\/people\/thomas-k-davis\/\">Prof. T.K. Davis<\/a>\u00a0since 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Some projects of the Nashville Urban Design Summer Studio include<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Centennial Park Visitor Center<\/li>\n<li>Micro-unit housing in Downtown Nashville<\/li>\n<li>Adaptive reuse<\/li>\n<li>Urban planning for a baseball stadium<\/li>\n<li>Riverfront projects, including The Boathouse, which should soon break ground<\/li>\n<li>An arts redevelopment district<\/li>\n<li>Transit studies<\/li>\n<li>Center for Sustainability<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.civicdesigncenter.org\/projects?xtags=university-of-tennessee-design-studio\">See more details about our students&#8217; work<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The studio allows students to engage in the urban design of Nashville and learn design skills through community engagement.
