January 14, 2019Thompson Chosen as Winner of Inaugural Design Competition
Congratulations to Taylor Thompson, a 2nd-year student in Architecture.聽 Thompson was chosen as the winner of the college鈥檚 inaugural holiday e-message student design competition.
Thompson’s snowflake-like design is an animated image that seems to reflect light as it reveals UT’s Power T at its center.
鈥淥ver the past few months, I have become fascinated with creating simple, geometry-based animations that are entertaining to create and receive,鈥 Thompson said. 鈥淚 hope that the 鈥榳alking blocks鈥 animation I have created spreads a little extra cheer in the New Year.鈥
Thompson鈥檚 design will be digitally distributed to close to 4,000 alumni and friends of the college.聽 Also as part of the win, she receives a $500 prize, and her design will be featured on our homepage.
The competition came about as a way to convey good cheer and well wishes for the New Year to professionals who are connected to the college.聽 We chose to feature a student鈥檚 work to demonstrate in an unusual way the creative culture in our college and showcase our students鈥 creativity and innovation.
Students were given a written message that had to be incorporated into the holiday design then challenged to create designs that represent the college.聽 In all, we received 40 entries.聽 Four of the designs were chosen in the first round of review, and after removing the students鈥 names, the four designs were reviewed by a jury featuring our own faculty, Julie Beckman and Diane Fox, as well as alumni from BarberMcMurry Architects, Lorena Martin and Chad Boetger, and McCarty Holsaple McCarty Architects & Interior Designers, Haley Zimmerman and Nathan Honeycutt.
Thanks to all students who entered.聽 They represented all years and programs in the college, and their designs are featured below.聽 Enjoy and happy holidays!
