April 6, 2016 Taylor Odom Earns National Design Scholarship
Taylor Odom, a third-year student in the ,聽recently earned a 2016 Gensler Brinkmann Scholarship.聽 Scholarship candidates are evaluated on their analysis and problem-solving skills, design development, graphic presentation, communication skills and passion.
For her second-place finish, Odom receives a scholarship and an opportunity to intern with , a billion-dollar, global architecture, design and planning firm with 5,000 employees in 46 locations.聽 Odom will intern at Gensler’s Chicago location聽this summer.
鈥淲orking with Gensler, a firm envisioning a better future for the world with innovative solutions, is a great way to be exposed to design on a larger scale and to experience the impact design has on the built environment and end-users,鈥 said Odom.聽 鈥淗aving the opportunity to be exposed to and intern聽with the industry鈥檚 top talent is rewarding in itself. 聽Additionally, this opportunity will allow me to elevate my design skills and philosophy as I prepare to enter the profession.鈥
In an announcement from Gensler, Odom鈥檚 work was described as 鈥淸envisioning] a workplace in which moveable walls and adaptable workspaces provide employees with the type of flexibility contemporary knowledge work demands,鈥 states Gensler鈥檚 scholarship announcement.聽 鈥淥dom conveyed her vision for the project through a series of diagrams that explain the functionality of these spaces and anticipate user experience. Her submission explores the transformative nature of a workspace unmoored to the physical constraints found in traditional offices.鈥澛 To see images from Odom鈥檚 scholarship submission, see below.
First place was earned by Chloe Neuvirth, University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

In 2015, Erin Collins, now a fourth-year Interior Design student at UT, placed first in the Gensler Brinkmann Scholarship.
Established in 1999 as a memorial to Donald G. Brinkmann, a gifted interior designer, inspirational leader and former partner at Gensler, the Gensler Brinkmann Scholarship Fund celebrates Brinkmann鈥檚 career-long commitment to nurturing new design talent by presenting outstanding interior design students with scholarship and internship opportunities.
