Exhibition: Learning from Piranesi

No costOctober 4, 2020, marks the 300th birth anniversary of Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-78), the celebrated Venetian-born Roman architect, delineator and theorist. Piranesi鈥檚 work influenced generations of architects and painters, in his own time and centuries later.
An exhibition, Learning from Piranesi: Architectural Representation and Tectonics, celebrates the 300th birth anniversary of Giovanni Battista Piranesi. The exhibition, created by George Dodds, Alvin and Sally Beaman Professor of Architecture, will be on display at the Ewing Gallery Jan. 20-Feb. 17, 2021. .
The exhibit focuses on Piranesi鈥檚 many studies of ancient Roman construction techniques published in several of his major collected works. It is organized around a central core of etchings and includes contemporaneous works of accomplished architects, landscape architects and designers, along with the work of future architects.
