December 18, 2018 College to Hold Career Day for All Students
Each year, more than 60 employers from across the nation pay for the privilege to have face-to-face time with our students. Career Day, February 22, 2019, is a day-long event for all students in our college to speak to employers about jobs and internships as well as seek advice from professionals about preparation for the future.
Whether a first-year student wanting to learn more about the job market and the application process or a fifth-year student looking for that first position after college, Career Day is for all students in the college. Career Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the ballroom of the new Student Union.
In 2018, participating firms included Gensler, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, McCarty Holsaple McCarty, BarberMcMurry Architects, HBG Design, Hastings Architecture Associates, Lose & Associates, Inc. and others. These firms stretched across 13 states, from cities like 快活视频 to Memphis to Dallas and New York.
Many of our students and alumni have received valuable connections through Career Day, lasting long after graduation. Alumna Shelby Ferriter (B.IARCH, 鈥18) began working at Looney Ricks Kiss, an architecture and interior design firm, in August 2018.
鈥淏eing from Maryland and having never been to Memphis before, I probably would have never had this opportunity without Career Day,鈥 states Ferriter.
In prep for Career Day, our college hosts workshops to prepare students to connect, impress and get hired. These workshops, hosted by faculty and our Center for Student Development team, include portfolio reviews, resume and cover letter feedback sessions and mock interviews.
Appointments are not needed to participate in Career Day; however, students who upload their resumes, cover letters and design sheets by February 4, 2019, are eligible to have employers review their work prior to Career Day and schedule interviews.
