August 30, 2019 Kalas Named Interim Director of Marco Institute, Curator of “Visions of the End” Exhibit

Associate Professor of Architecture聽Gregor Kalas聽has been named the Interim Riggsby Director of the聽.

The Marco Institute is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and is an interdisciplinary center for accomplished scholars in medieval and Renaissance studies. 鈥婽he institute sponsors visiting lectures, an annual scholarly symposium, and academic publications to advance scholarship, education, outreach鈥, and faculty and student development in the field.

As interim director, Kalas will oversee the institute while continuing his duties at the College of Architecture and Design.

Kalas is also the curator of the exhibition 鈥淰isions of the End, 1000-1600鈥 at the聽.

In this exhibition the Apocalypse is witnessed through captivating artworks鈥攃arvings, metalwork, woodcuts, stained glass windows, and illuminated manuscripts鈥攑roduced by medieval and Renaissance artists. These objects, balancing hopeful messages with visions of the end, were inspired by the Book of Revelation written by John of Patmos around 100 C.E.

鈥婽he exhibition聽will feature聽鈥媜bjects聽loaned聽鈥媌y聽the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Walters Art Museum, the Free Library of Philadelphia, and the Glencairn Museum.

鈥淰isions of the End, 1000-1600鈥澛爓ill be in the McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture from January 31-May 10, 2020.
