February 11, 2019 DJ Spooky to Lecture, Perform on Intersection of Art Forms
Our college, in conjunction with student organization TAAST and the UT School of Music, will host Paul D. Miller, a.k.a. DJ Spooky for a public lecture and performance on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m.
Miller鈥檚 lecture, titled 鈥淐ultural Makers at the Intersection,鈥 will be held in the Natalie Haslam Music Center in the Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Miller is a composer, multimedia artist and writer who will lecture and perform, addressing how music, art and design converge. He specializes in blending genres and global culture and addresses environmental and social issues.
Most recently, Miller received the 2017-2018 Hewlett 50 Arts Commission Award, which supported the creation of a multimedia performance and installation based on the history and evolution of the internet called The installation premiered at San Francisco鈥檚 YBCA in January this year.
In his multifaceted career, Miller serves as the editor of Origin Magazine and has released several books including Rhythm Science, Sound Unbound and The Book of Ice. His artistic work has appeared in the Whitney Biennial, the Venice Biennial for Architecture, Ludwig Museum in Colone, Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and many other places.
Miller has also collaborated with various artists including Metallica, Chuck D, Steve Reich and Yoko Ono. He was also named the first Artist in Residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2013.
We host leading architects and designers through our Robert B. Church Memorial Lectures and more recently the Governor鈥檚 Chair Lecture Series and General Shale Lectures.
